Paul LeBlanc: Why I'm joining the US ISO

Paul LeBlanc, author of Lenin and the Revolutionary Party, decided to join the International Socialist Organization at this year's Northeast Socialist Conference. We're excited to welcome him and we're sure it's not just because we read his book!

Check out his post on Links: International Journal of Socialist Renewal.

If you are interested in learning more about the ISO check out our "Where We Stand" at the bottom of the page, or contact us via email, phone, or facebook.

Tucson ISO Hotline

Our apologies for the lack of posts the last week or so. It's a busy time as we get ready for the new school year. In an effort to be as accessible as possible we have set up a phone number so that if email is too impersonal, Twitter off the mark, or you just want some person to person time, you have the opportunity to do so!

Consider it our Tucson ISO Hotline!

520.302.4476

We'll be back up and running with a modified blogspot including meeting times, educational events, and of course, your daily dose of political discussion to spark your interest in what it is that we are fighting for: a better world.

Where We Stand 1.3

Revolution

As Socialists we support the right of workers and all the oppressed to struggle against their oppression. Reforms may improve the living, working, and social conditions of workers and the oppressed. But capitalism endangers these reforms, and without replacing capitalism with socialism, oppression and exploitation will remain.

The government now was created and is maintained as an instrument of the ruling class; it is there to protect their interests. Therefore, workers need a completely different government, one that democratically represents their interests -- that of the majority. We do not endorse capitalist parties such as the Democrats or Republicans. We support true left wing candidates and direct political action. We must work to break down the capitalist, two party system that strangles true democracy.

We're getting our Lit together!

Since one of the best ways to grow as an activist and revolutionary is to read up on what other activists and revolutionaries did and are doing, we thought it would make a lot of sense to get in on a sweet literature table. During times of economic hardship one of the best places to invest is in yourself, and what better way to pull yourself out of economic hardship than by taking control of the system that screwed it all up in the first place!

Haymarket Books, a not for profit publisher, is one of the greatest sources of progressive literature. They, along with the International Socialist Review are a project of the Center for Economic Research and Social Change. So it is no surprise that we would go to them to stock up on some great titles to fill our lit table!

Check out just some of the titles that we will be carrying below. Shoot us an email if you would like to preorder a book or two, or three!

And of course we want you to buy your next copy of Sexuality and Socialism or The Meaning of Marxism from us (how else do we get ready for a LGBT reading group without you!), but that does not mean you should not check out Haymarket's website for a complete list of titles!
