Over 183 Desert Deaths

The Coalición de Derechos Humanos released a press release earlier this week noting the number of remains that have been found in the deserts of Arizona. According to the press release, 183 remains have been found; this number exceeds that of last year's and there is still more time left in the fiscal year. Identification of these bodies proves difficult as many are just skeletal remains and DNA testing is too costly to afford families the opportunity to know the whereabouts of their loved ones. This is another example of the horrible effect that the oppressive and unjust immigration policies of the United States has.

The Coalición de Derechos Humanos argue in their press release that, "The dramatic increase in unknown gender cases is a clear indicator of what happens as border enforcement strategies push migrants out into more and more isolated areas, making rescue and detection less likely and the likelihood of death more certain."

Unless we work together to fight against the growing use of militarization and violence at our borders more people will die. And unless we speak out against the lies targeted at immigrants, rich in racism, sexism, and classism, these walls, checkpoints, deportations, and stricter "immigration policies" will continue to be used as a force against working class people in all countries.

The full press release can be found at their website.
